So, it's been a long time since I've posted a journal on this website. I was going through my deviations, and I got bored so I thought I'd update you on my life as of late.
I believe last time I posted here, I had recently completed my Associates Degree at OCC, and was still working at Roji Tea Lounge in Syracuse. It's amazing how much can change in two years:
After graduating from Onondaga Community College with an AS in Photography, I took a semester off from school and returned in Spring '10 at Syracuse University. I entered into the Art Photography program in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, but after a semester I discovered that it wasn't really what I wanted to be doing with my life- photography is something I do more for myself than for other people, and I could never be happy selling my artwork as a career. I had wanted to minor in Art History, so I changed my major to History of Art (also in the College of Visual and Performing Arts) in Fall '10 and fell in love with the program! Since then I have concentrated my specialization on East Asian art (Chinese, Japanese and Korean), with some minor focuses on Contemporary art and Italian Renaissance sculpture. I also added two minors: Asian/Asian-American Studies (a social-science) and Religion and Society (a combo social-science and religion minor). I have also continued a language concentration in Japanese, although my major/minors don't have a language requirement (ie. I wanted to keep up on my studies for my own interests). My goal is to graduate in December 2012, although I will be walking in Commencement in May '12 with the rest of my class. I have not yet decided if I want to finish my degree here in Syracuse or abroad on the Florence program in Italy. Once I have my BFA degree, I want to enter the Museum Studies Masters program at Syracuse University along with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Cultural Heritage Preservation. I want to work in a museum field (preferably as a Registrar or Educator), while doing research and publishing on the side. Eventually I may go for a PhD in Art History, although I have not thought that far ahead yet.
On top of going to school full-time, I am working two part-time jobs, which takes up a lot of my time. I am working at the MOST currently, which has gotten my foot in the door as far as museum work goes. My other job is as a scheduling agent for a prominent national dentistry, which is challenging but rewarding; a large portion of my job involves helping people get medical help they need, which is very satisfying.
Between school and work, I don't have much free time, but what time I do have is usually spent with my boyfriend Matt. I also spend a lot of time with my close friends, many of whom I met while working at Roji Tea Lounge, but some who I've met through Matt as well. Some of our favorite activities include Sunday brunches (all home-made), drinking at the bars in Armory Square and watching TV shows together. Matt has gotten me addicted to Community and Arrested Development, as well as the band Angels and Airwaves (he has a major man-crush on Tom DeLonge from Blink 182). Outside of that, I spend a lot of time reading and discovering new music online- I'm constantly seeking out new material to listen to. If you have any recommendations, please send them my way!
I may or may not continue to post journals here, although it is unlikely due to my lack of activity on DeviantART as of late. Without any new materials to post, there isn't much incentive for me to remain active on the website. I may change my mind, though.
